Stop Food Waste Day

April 28, 2022

"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice."

28th April, a day for all of us to remember the importance of food. Food keeps us going, it is the essential commodity for which we work and live, a commodity that every human on this planet deserves. But unfortunately, almost 25 thousand people die because of hunger-related issues every day. It’s crazy to think that a third of the food produced on Earth goes to waste! While millions around the globe are starving. 25 thousand people, 25 thousand stories, 25 thousand lives lost each day. If food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest emitter of greenhouse gasses after the USA & China. Almost 854 million people worldwide are estimated to be undernourished. High food prices are only worsening the situation caused by inflation & global warming.

But the ones that suffer the most are the poor and marginalized communities, the people that spend most of what they earn on food. Food is an essential commodity and all the people on our planet deserve it.

Most of the people have heard what an air purifier is but don’t have an idea of what an air ionizer is but there is a very major difference in these two variants.

All these facts should remind us about our responsibility as a person regarding the food we waste. We should be careful while we eat about precisely how much we actually require. This sensibility is very important for us to form a habit of not wasting any amount of food.

  • Only buy what you require.
  • Avoid hoarding a lot of food.
  • Check your kitchen before you go shopping.
  • Buying too much is the main reason for food waste and should be avoided at all costs.
  • Avoid special offers like getting 1 on buying 2. These are schemes that get you into buying something you don’t even require or need.
  • Don’t shop when you are hungry.

Store the food correctly within separate containers. The food that requires to be used early should be kept in the front so you know it and store the food that lasts a little longer in the back.

Cook what you have, don’t let a little potato with a few spots throw you off, sometimes we just don’t adjust. With a few cuts, even that potato is edible and perfectly healthy. Keep checking for food that needs to be used. With all these little steps every individual can contribute to making the world a much better place.

Start saving food today, so there’s a better tomorrow!
