How Air Ionizers are Revolutionizing Air Purification

JUN 08, 2022

During the 19th century, a man named Charles Deane got a patent registered in his name for a device comprising a copper helmet with an attached flexible collar and garment. It was the very beginning of a technology that would help to make modern air purifiers. Three decades later, John Stenhouse, a renowned chemist invented the world’s first practical respirator. This invention popularized the use of wood charcoal and its deodorizing properties.

HEPA filters were commercialized in the 1950s after they were put to use in the Manhattan Project to control airborne radioactive contaminants a decade earlier. Fast-forwarding today, the extreme pollution levels have stipulated us into using air purifies for our own safety, as a result, today there’s a rise in the use of HEPA filter based air purifiers and air ionizers. What is an Ionizer? You might wonder, well you see purifiers come in two types. There are active and passive purifiers, an air ionizer falls under active air purifiers which kill the airborne viruses by releasing negatively charged ions into the air that bond with the pollutants and eliminates them from the inside while passive air purifiers require air filters to trap viruses.

Air Purifiers that use HEPA filters trap viruses up to 0.3 microns while Air Ionizers eliminate viruses up to 0.1 microns in size.

There’s a significant difference in the way they both purify the air, one traps while the other kills. This is the reason why air ionizers are modernizing the way air is purified; why just trap when you can eliminate the virus by the use of negative ions. Negative ions are very beneficial for our mind and body and are the reason why ionizers are able to eliminate pollutants from the air.

Air Ionizers are easy to use as they have no filters meaning no maintenance. There are many companies that manufacture air ionizers today which are replacing HEPA filter based air purifiers swiftly. The use of air purifiers and ionizers is growing in developing countries due to the extreme levels of pollution and the tragic pandemic that’s affected millions around the world. This has caused people to understand the dangers of breathing polluted air which contains dust, pollen, pet dander, allergens, viruses and bacteria.

Burge Electronics, a health and wellness company that manufactures an air ionizer by the name of Ion Dome, uses groundbreaking technology that releases millions of positively and negatively charged ions in the air that completely eliminates viruses, bacteria and air pollutants. Check out our product here.

It is certified by ICMR recognised and ILAC accredited RGCB lab and it has zero ozone generation.

Now we are coming up with a new product – a Car Air Ionizer, so you can go on safer road trips!
